Be a DG Star: Go Above & Beyond
STAR (Smile, Thank, Assist and Resolve) customer service was introduced in 2013. This year, Dollar General is taking this program to the next level, offering a STAR pin to our associates who receive five or more STAR certificates for exceptional customer service. Each issue of the DG Story will proudly recognize these employees for their achievements. Thank you for making a difference and for Serving Others! We love to thank our dedicated employees for taking care of our customers every day in your store! Here are just a few examples of our rising stars in action:
Joe in Tucker, Georgia
Joe has been a store manager for more than two years. He takes pride in his store and the team that works for him. He makes sure the store team follows the processes to ensure the store is set and ready for customers every day. “Recovery is paramount,” stated Joe, “Our customers know the products they need will be on the shelf when they shop in-store.”
Rose in Seneca, Pennsylvania
Region Director Rod recognizes Sales Associate Rose with a STAR pin and certificate for her excellent customer service skills. Rose greets every customer with a smile and knows most by name. In addition, she knows what her customers are looking for and suggests additional items that may have been overlooked. Thanks Rose for taking the time to address customers’ needs!
Region 70 and 73 in Oklahoma
The Oklahoma Honor Flights took 87 veterans to Washington, D.C. for a one-day trip to visit the World War II, Korean War, Iwo Jima and Lincoln Memorials, the Vietnam Wall, Arlington National Cemetery and other sites. Members of the Region 70 and 73 leadership teams greeted the veterans when they returned. Join us in thanking them for honoring those who served.
Store Management Team Region 22, District 673, Western Pennsylvania
Seventeen participating stores in Western Pennsylvania went ‘nuts’ for the troops during a Fourth of July event. The district partnered with Bonnie, director of the Armstrong County Division PA Hero Walk, to send 20,197 packs of seeds and nuts to local veterans and troops overseas. This was successful due to associates raising awareness and customers supporting the cause. Thanks for thinking of our troops!
Kelley in Keene, Texas
Store Manager Kelley took National Night Out to a whole new level in her community! National Night Out is designed to raise awareness, generate support for anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood and community partnerships with first responders and unite the community against crime. Kelley helped organize the event held at Dollar General. Several members and leaders of the community attended the event. Kelley commented, “Involving my community helps the store I manage. My customers feel they are a part of the store and that we care about them.” Thank you Kelley for your leadership and outstanding community outreach!
Wendy and Karen in Conway, Arkansas
Wendy and Karen were recognized for outstanding customer service by District Manager Vicky and Region Director Mark.
“Wendy and Karen always strive day to day to go that extra mile to help customers have the best shopping experience possible. They truly believe in Serving Others,” stated Price. What are their secrets to success? For Wendy, it is making the customers feel like they are a part of our lives every day. She takes time to understand what the customers need and always asks them to come back. Karen enjoys helping customers find the merchandise they are looking for and sincerely greeting each customer as they enter the store.
Joyce in Jacksonville, Arkansas
Store Manager Joyce brings over 40 years of retail experience to Dollar General. Her focus is training her team, setting clear goals and expectations and keeping the store ready for customers to shop. Joyce wants her store to ‘feel like home’ to her shoppers. Joyce also finds time to help in the community, and founded the Reading Room at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Joyce partnered with the hospital for a room where children and their families could escape when needed so they could feel like they are home. The room has computers, games, books and movies, all funded by Joyce and her foundation. Thank you Joyce for sharing your passion with us
