Destination DG: Scottsville Distribution Center
In 1939, 75 years ago, J. L. Turner and Cal Turner, Sr. opened J. L. Turner and Son Wholesale, in Scottsville, Kentucky. Today, Scottsville is home to three Dollar General stores and the Scottsville Distribution Center, which employs more than 500 people. “Dollar General has always been a strong part of the Scottsville community,” says Carey Massey, human resources director. “We have nearly 60 employees with more than 20 years of service with the Scottsville Distribution Center.” The Scottsville Distribution Center and a new Dollar General office complex were built in 1973. It wasn’t until 2000 that Dollar General moved to the Store Support Center located in Goodlettsville, Tennessee. When the new headquarters in Goodlettsville were built, a meeting room was specially designed on the top floor of Integrity Place, where one wall of glass overlooks the road to Kentucky while the other overlooks deeper into Tennessee. The design is meant to serve as a constant reminder of our past and our present.
